ALTAR’D STATE INTERNSHIP

Capturing brand storytelling through e-commerce photography and social-first content

PROJECT OVERVIEW

During my internship with Altar’d State, I worked as a photography intern supporting both the e-commerce and social media teams in creating visual content for digital platforms.

The majority of my role focused on photographing products for the Altar’d State website, ensuring imagery aligned with brand standards and presented products in a clear, elevated, and consistent way. In addition, I supported social media initiatives through flat lay photography and short form video content, contributing to a cohesive brand presence across platforms.

THE CHALLENGE

E-commerce and social media content require different visual approaches while maintaining a consistent brand identity. The goal was to create imagery that balances clarity and accuracy for product presentation with more expressive, styled content for social engagement.

THE CONCEPT

This experience centered on capturing product and lifestyle imagery that supports both functionality and storytelling. E-commerce photography focused on clean, consistent visuals that highlight product details, while social content introduced more creativity through styling, composition, and motion.

The approach ensured that all content, whether product focused or lifestyle driven, felt cohesive within the overall brand system.

CONTENT CREATION APPROACH

E-commerce photography prioritized precision, consistency, and accurate representation. Each product was photographed across multiple angles including front, side, back, and detail shots to give customers a comprehensive view and enhance the online shopping experience.

Social media content allowed for more expressive storytelling. Styled flat lays and video content were designed to feel engaging and aspirational, helping customers visualize how products could fit into their everyday lives.

EXPERIENCE DESIGN

Working within a fast paced production environment, I collaborated closely with other interns and the photography team to meet weekly shooting and editing deadlines. Regular critiques allowed for continuous refinement, reinforcing attention to detail and adaptability.

I also contributed to social media video production, including a stop motion Black Friday campaign and additional promotional content. These projects required precision, collaboration, and creative problem solving to ensure seamless execution.

DESIGN IMPACT

This experience strengthened my understanding of how visual content functions across different areas of a brand. From structured e-commerce imagery to expressive social content, I learned how to maintain consistency while adapting to different platforms and goals.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Process played a key role in delivering consistent and high quality content. This included shooting in studio using Capture One, organizing assets in Adobe Bridge, and editing in Photoshop to meet brand standards.

Flat lay styling required thoughtful composition, prop selection, and color balance to create cohesive visuals. Video projects involved planning, frame by frame adjustments, and collaborative feedback to refine the final output.
